Silicon carbide is manufactured in a resistive furnace with high quality quartz sand and petroleum coke.The refined silicon carbide blocks, after crushing, acid and alkali washing, magnetic separation and sieving or water separation and made into a variety of particle size products.
Silicon carbide has two common bases, black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide.
It is mainly used for processing materials with low tensile strength, such as glass, ceramics, stone, refractories, cast iron and non-ferrous metals.
Mineral green silicon carbide contains more than 97% SiC and has good self-sharpening. It is mainly used for processing hard alloy, titanium alloy and optical glass, as well as honing cylinder sleeve and fine grinding high speed steel cutter.
Then there is cubic silicon carbide, a yellow-green crystal of a special process used to make a grinding tool suitable for super-finishing of bearings, with surface roughness ranging from Ra32 to 0.16 microns to Ra0.04 to 0.02 microns.
