The smelting of low carbon ferrochrome by thermal silicon method is carried out in the fixed three-phase arc furnace, which can use self-baking electrode and the lining is laid by magnesia brick (dry masonry).The short service life of furnace lining is an important problem in the production of middle and low carbon ferrochrome.Because smelting temperature is higher (reach 1650 degree Celsius), lining life is shorter generally.

The raw materials for smelting middle and low carbon ferrochrome are chromium ore, silicon chromium alloy and lime.Chromium ore should be dry and pure block ore or concentrate powder. The higher the content of Cr2O3, the better, and the lower the content of impurities, the better.The content of phosphorus in chromium ore should not be greater than 0.03% and the particle size should be less than 60mm.Silicon chromium alloy shall be broken, with particle size less than 30mm and without residue.Lime should be freshly baked and the CaO content should not be less than 85%.
